A Leadership Spill in the Wind?

Phil Goff is denying that he's after Helen Clark's job.

I guess that means that we can expect to see the friction within the Labour Caucus heat up as the respective bagmen do their numbers stuff. Game on?

I think if Klark isn't confident of going into the next election with a more than even chance, she'll flee the ship. Her ego is such that she won't want to lose, then have to go.

Or, another possibility is a snap election immediately after the budget - a budget which will be a lolly scramble of unprecedented proportions - and hopefully rely on a poll boost and catching the Nat's off guard in terms of policy release.

Agreed Shout. If Clark sees the polls getting to the point where she believes she can't win, she'll jack it in, and give someone a hospital pass. You're right, it's an ego thing - having been the first ELECTED female PM, she won't want to be the first ELECTED female PM to be totally annihilated by the voting public!
