Two Words Labour Dread - Colmar Brunton!

The latest Colmar Brunton poll was released on One News tonight - see the details here:

http://tvnz.co.nz/view/page/411749/1586212

In short:

National - 53% (down 1)
Labour - 34% (down 1)

But even more significantly, the Preferred Prime Minister result:

John Key - 36% (up 1)
Helen Clark - 27% (down 3)

I guess there'll be more soul-searching on the 9th Floor tonight and tomorrow. It will be interesting to see Clark's mood and demeanour on Breakfast tomorrow morning, and whether Paul Henry quizzes her over Glenngate.

Yeeaaahh

It's amazing how much support Key is getting from across the political divide. Two of my Labourite friends are voting for Key.

Key would never declared that he's a 'popular and competent' leader of the opposition. Or a 'victim of his own success'. & that's exactly why I like him. Frankly I've never been able to figure out why Clark has polled so well as preferred PM for so long.

Just watched Clark on Breakfast - well, to be honest, I listened while making my breakfast, but that was enough. She predictably dismissed Colmar Brunton as a rogue poll, out of step with other polls in the recent past, then talked about all National's policy announcements to date. Henry asked her about the difficulty of turning the tide and she quickly changed tack (to use a nautical term!). However when she had faded from view and sound, Henry and Pippa Wegzell talked again about the difficulty of fighting an outgoing tide, and the perception of "tired government".

And in reference to my comments in the main thread - Paul Henry didn't go anywhere near Glenngate - but then would we have expected the PM's television broadcaster to go there?

Clark should be in jail - with Cullen, Goff, Jordon Carter, Andrew Little, and the rest of the cabinet and lickspittle unionists behind them

and then the country should just deregister the Labour part and the political unions once and for all

Then we wouldn't have a democracy any more.
I suspect you aren't being genuine.

When National are govt. in seven months time, it can only be in the interests of the country to have a strong Labour opposition to hold National to their promises & to ensure accountability.

Nope. Corrupt politicians belong in jail.
Corrupt parties and unions should be deregistered.

If you're a doctor, a real estate agent, a teacher, even a mechanic, if you are corrupt you are prosecuted and jailed.

If you're a policiation who bribes the govt with the best part of a million dollars, then gives them fake loans to get around the elections act that that govt wrote (corruptly, of course), then get a gong and a flash job for your money --- that's corrupt. Pure and simple and plain. They should be jailed.

And, frankly, whatever happens, if you think that Labour will be a "strong opposition" you are completely nuts. Labour will be backbiting, demoralised, broken - anyone with any talent or ability will get out, and no-one will even want to join the resulting pile of mediocrities.

As for me - I can't wait for payback for the people who have trashed the country after the last 10 years --- and am really looking forwards to getting "back on with the job" of fixing NZ that Bolger, Shipley & now Labour have given up on.

And the real opposition, inside or outside cabinet, will be from ACT, of course.
