Audrey vs the EPMU

Audrey Young's blog makes fascinating reading tonight - have a look-see: http://blogs.nzherald.co.nz/blog/audrey-young/2008/3/6/corrections-retractions-and-rubbish/?c_id=280

Ms Young totally debunks the myth that the EPMU has tried to perpetuate over the John Key/cut your wages non-event. In short, Andrew Little of the EPMU accuses Key of having heavied the Bay Report to get a retraction of the "I want to cut your wages" comment. Young doesn't mince her words - check this out:

"There is a certain amount of rubbish being pedalled by the Engineering Printing and Manufacturing Union about the Herald's involvement in the saga over whether or not John Key told the Bay Report in Northland he wanted wages to drop.

National secretary Andrew Little is entitled to ask questions but they should be based on facts.

Amid many questions in a press statement today headed "Has National muzzled the press?" he asks why the Herald is publishing a "correction" ahead of a Bay Report "correction" on the story.

That is false. "

Now, where else have we seen that line of attack? That's right - over where our dear brothers hang out - http://www.thestandard.org.nz/ - reputed to have links to ...... the EPMU!

You'd think Tane and his cohorts would have learned over the the "hosted by Labour" affair - but no. Instead, they have continued to slur John Key, allowing posters such as Robinsod to have pretty much a free reign, while dissenting opinion is now regularly censored. Glenngate and the sinister goings-on at the Hawke's Bay DHB have barely rated a mention - I would have thought that the union boys would have been uop in arms about a democratically elected board being summarily dismissed (or at least have taken up a personal grievance!), but no, the silence is deafening.

Methinks they doth protest too much!!

Without wanting to sound uncharitable, the Standard is complete shit. I simply can't be bothered any more.

I think it's great to read blogs all across the spectrum and those guys have pitched themselves as the grandaddy of the lefty blogs so should be worth a browse every so often, but it's so full of hysteria, bullshit and bad research that I find it utterly unreadable. Initially I'd hoped that we'd get something substantial from those guys. FFS there's enough contributors, you'd think that between them somehow you'd get something decent.
Their comments section is even worse.
Doesn't help the stereotype that your average garden variety Labour party union-pinkos are below average intelligence.

The kerfuffle over Labour hosting their server, and their dogmatic slurring of John Key have put me off The Standard helmet, but it's a bit like a car crash - you know you shouldn't look, but you do anyway! I'm probably the last person who should be criticising them, given that I give the PM a bagging more often than not, but I'd like to believe that my language is more tempered, and that my posts are based on reason most of the time - though I freely admit I go over the top at times - sometimes deliberately. But heck, that's life!

You're a pervert Inventory, a dirty blog-peeking pervert :-)

Whenever I used to read it I'd get this uncontrollable urge to beat my head against the wall. They just can't understand real simple things. I can't stand watching them froth themselves into such a spin over absolutely nothing.

I suppose it's cute the way they trying to blog with the grown-ups though.
