The TVNZ documentary on Cpl Willie Apiata VC was outstanding, and congratulations should go to all those involved in the production.
Willie Apiata and his fellow soldiers from the NZSAS are true modern-day heroes. As ANZAC Day draws to a close, and we remember the sacrifice of so many young New Zealanders, it is reassuring to see the courage and professionalism of these men. Kia kaha, kia toa, kia manawanui.

Watched it on Friday night too. Fantastic stuff. He is a humble man who was thrust into an unwanted limelight through an extraordinary feat of heroism that, for him, was his job and what he is paid to do.
Brought it home for me even more, as I have just finished both non-fiction books by Andy McNab.
He is a hero and role model, and you could see this when he received the the welcome and the haka at his home marae.
(AND WHY THE HELL WAS CLARK THERE?!?!)
Horomia and Goff were also there - Horomia would have been there for the kai, but I guess it's also in his electorate. I actually don't have a problem with Clark & Goff being there, and much as it pains me to admit it, Clark's korero was quite fititng to the occasion.
What made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up though was the haka from the pupils at my alma mater, Palmy North BHS - stirring stuff!!
You're right though SMM - Willie Apiata is a true hero, and derserves all the accolades that have been bestowed upon him.
For once TVNZ actually showed something worthwhile
