The Budget Forum - have your say...
So what rabbit is Michael Cullen going to pull out of the hat today? Does he have any rabbits? Does he even have a hat?
What do YOU reckon will be in today's budget?

I rekon
* increase in all benefit levels * huge increase in Welfare for Families * some kind of KiwiSteal tax rort (e.g. no limit on the amount of $$ you can dump into KiwiStealer tax free) * small moves in the tax thresholds, and indexing * a blatant bribe to Maori (e.g. a "sorry bonus": if you're on the Maori roll and recognised by a Tribe, you get a 5% tax cut or 5% benefit boost) * increased direct funding for unions * and 45% tax rate on income over 100.000
sour lemons too much for some not enough for those who work to run businesses that employ people things that on the surface sound OK until you probe beneath
Good point about business Adam. The ECE service that Mrs Inventory and I own and manage has grown incrementally in the last 18 months. But the climate for running a business is a huge deterrent. At times, it is only Mrs Inventory's belief in and passion for the work we are doing that keeps us afloat. This is NOT a business-friendly government.
Interesting comment Murray - that quote that John Johanssen chucked out yesterday about Cullen having "an intractible negative perception" with the public might be right on the money. Fankly, I think Labour is stuffed, and there is so much turgid rubbish floating around at the moment that the budget will get lost in the feeding frenzy. Whicvh perhaps is what Labour wants!
The best thing Cullen could do for Labour is to begin his speech by saying "At the conclusion of this my 9th Budget, I will resign as Finance Minister, effective immediately".
I notice that TVNZ is trying to outbid TV3 for the FOX shows: House, Bones etc. This would destroy TV3. After yesterdays issue with SKY - is TVNZ (via Helen) tryinh to get rid of media competition within NZ? Think Venezuela, Cuba etc.
The Budget is an absolute disgrace, he fails all his self imposed tests, he is trying to buy the election and Adam has this dreadful fear that he will be successful.
He has sacrificed tomorrow for today.
He has blown everything and yet again those with children get money.
Am listening to the evil witch foaming and frothing at present.
She was doing her snorting trick.
How the hell does she get away with it.
Now threatening nationalisation
Where has all the money he took in prior years gone.
No control over poor quality spending.
Think I am going to think about fleeing the country.
because that is what this budget makes certainly will happen - or it would, if this budget was going to be in effect for more than 1 October to 1 December!
Key has just said that he will ensure NZ's tax rates are lower than Aussie. Across the board. Permanently
I've just been listening to Hone Harawira (good speech today - no "dickheads"!), and he underlined the smoke and mirrors element. Cullen announced $17m for Maori Wardens today - Hone said that sounded great, until he looked at the sums - $7m of that is stolen from TPK, and the balance is spread over four years - so Cullen's $17m is actually new spending of $2.5m in year one.

Do we give a crap?
I think the country is too far gone not to look at anything this guy does as being a cynical attempt to buy more power over us.
We'll take our money back and fire him too.

The next goal is to do the same with Singapore.
