The Friday Forum - 9/5/08

Come one, come all - there's plenty to talk about this week - the economy, unemployment, railways, the ETS - then again, there's a big night of sport tonight with the might Hurricanes looking for a S14 semi-final berth and the League test in Sydney.

But this is YOUR forum, so have your say!

TVNZ have said Bob Clarkson not running in Tauranga, so what price Winnie's chances?

Interesting, although not unexpected. The 11am Newstalk news said it would "clear the way for a high-profile local candidate" to stand against Peters, so it would seem that this is not a bolt from the blue for the Nats.

At last National understands MMP.

The NZF+Labour votes in Tauranga exceeded the National vote. And you can bet Labour would be tactically voting for Winston!

National needs to do the same, both here and in Epsom. Unless they are absolutely sure they will wipe out NZ First, trying to do so and then failing is a recipe for another Labour government supported by NZF.

Until National is in government, and has the majority necessary to re-introduce a democratic, non-gerrymandered electoral system, they must play nice with the likes of Winnie, Dunny, and even the Greenies and Maori party - and attack only Labour.

A Herald poll found that 90% of NZ 1st voters preferred National over Labour as a coalition parter.

^so with that in mind, & the fact that Winston wouldn't commit to either party before the election... how many Labour voters are going to risk voting for NZ1st...?

This election coming up is going to be NZ1st toughest yet - even tougher than the 1999 election.

Yep. And each party has a choice: either Hope Like Hell Winnie gets wasted, or throw him a bone in case he survives. Because one thing is certain: go after Winnie and NZF will go with the other party after the election, whatever the voters want!

So the safe choice is play nice, run a mickey mouse "Richard Worth" candidate in Tauranga, and be ready with a box of baubles when the time comes.
