The Monday Quote - 16/6/08

With the media spotlight firmly on Winston Peters today, this from his speech in reply to the Prime Ministers's statement on 12 February 2008:

"That is why I am pleased to say that in 2008 New Zealand First will go on ensuring that there is stable Government in this country—that is No. 1—because we keep our word. We are famous for it. What we say we will do, we do. That is why some people do not like us. What we say we will do, we do. We do not back down on our word."

I don't normally comment on these quotes, but this one is especially pertinent given the hypocricy shown by Winston and NZ First over the "secret" donations to charity in lieu of payment of the party's debt to Parliamentary Services.

I have no problem with NZ 1st donating secretly to charities, but Winston must know he still owes the public of New Zealand the money he illegally spent last election.

I ask again - is there any reason why an incoming government cannot repeal the retrospective legislation passed to enable police action against the offending parties.

Perhaps the time which has elapsed will make this impractical but it could be a good plank to campaign on.
