Your average Kiwi family - not!

Oh boy, this is an own goal of classic proportions!! Kiwiblog posts this morning on the legality of Labour's post-election brochure under the EFA. But there's more to it, as he shows near the foot of his post.

Skinny has done some detective work, and deduced that the photo on the brochure of your typical Kiwi Mum, Dad and adorable child is not what it seems. It's actually an AMERICAN family, lifted from a stock photo site - www.istockphoto.com !! As was THIS one, of the same family, complete with the Stars and Stripes in the background!

Oh dear. Someone will be getting a "please explain" today methinks. Surely there was at least ONE New Zealand family who would have happily posed for the glossy brochure - surely??
UPDATE: The Herald has interviewed the photographer, and he confirms the photo was taken in Lake Stevens, Washington State.

The brochure wasn't glossy, it was printed on matte recycled paper.

Shock! Horror! Advertising agency uses stock photos! I bet the only real difference this will make to anything is that said advertising agency won't be getting anymore work from Labour.

Did like your heading on the Benson Pope post.

Cheers JP - If I'd really been thinking this morning, I might have been able to link it to tennis balls, but the brain was a bit slow!

This raises another question.
Was the photo on the Labour Pledge Card a $20 American snap also. Now I realise there are not a lot of homely looking women in the USA, but then again today's family house looked like a Mt Albert villa, and they are not common in the US either.
Maybe "photoshopping in NZ" was not required after all.
