Harvey on the culture of violence

Waitakere City Mayor and former Labour Party President Bob Harvey told a church service in Auckland yesterday:

""I've actually given up trying to talk to the guys who are criminally violent about their violence at 20 - or 25. I don't think it's going to work [even at] 16 - I'm winding it back.

"I think the solution is early childhood intervention."

"Early childhood intervention should mean taking serious, drastic and immediate action. When dysfunctional families are spotted - and they are - in hospitals and birthing rooms, we must act. I believe that some newborns should not be allowed to go home.

"The Kahui twins could have been saved if that was the case.""

At last! Some honesty from the Left on the topic of child abuse, which Labour and The Greens thought would be magically cured by the repeal of S59 of the Crimes Act. It's clear now that the "anti-smacking bill" was nothing more than grandstanding, while the REAL causes of the horrific level of child abuse in our society remain the "elephant in the room".

I2, Show me a single quote from anybody in Labour or the Greens that could reasonably be interpreted as suggesting this.
