Is Decison08 transparent?.

I've been visiting the Decision08 website a bit lately, mainly for Duncan Garner's piecesabout Winston Peters. Decision08 has a team of bloggers comprising Duncan Garner and John Campbell from TV3, political commentator Paul Gallager, academic and political commentator Duncan Webb and fashion journalist Sylvia Giles. But it is Duncan Webb in the spotlight this morning.

Webb yesterday penned a piece that was derisive of the measures that National announced over the weekend. I don't have a problem with that - from an independant journalist. But Webb is far from independant. WhaleOil reveals this morning that Duncan Webb is:

* Chairman of the Christchurch Central Labour Electorate Committee
* a long-standing Labour Party campaigner and activist
* a recent appointee by Minister Rick Barker to the postiton of Legal Complaints Review Officerunder the Lawyers and Conveyancers Act

Again, I don't have a problem with that per se. However, if a correspondent is going to write blatantly political pieces on what is supposedly an independant website designed to provide the public with a resource to help them deciside who to vote for this year, their partisanship should be disclosed.

Then again, this is TV3, the news channel that was quite happy to disclose the contents of a private conversation taped without the subjects's knowledge. Lets have some transparency TV3!
