More Kiwi gold!

Well done Tom Ashley! Third place in the medal race today in the RS:X Boardsailing, but more importantly, he finished ahead of his French and British opponents, and that means a gold medal for the Kiwi, continuing the fine tradition started by Bruce and Barbara Kendall.

The weather at the Olympic sailing regatta at Qing Dao has made it a bit of a lottery for everyone. But Tom Ashley has risen to the top in what Peter Montgomery has (frequently) told listeners is the world's second most demanding sport physically, and now with an Olympic gold medal to add to his 2008 World Championship, must be a very strong candidate for Sportsman of the Year. And at just 24, this could be the first of many titles for this talented sailor. As I type this, he is being carried from the water on his board by his peers - another proud Olympic moment!
