The NZ First Trifecta

New Zealand First has completed a trifecta unparallelled in our polticial history. Simultaneously

  • the Party Leader is the subject of an investigation by Parliament's Privileges Committee
  • the Party is under investigation by the Serious Fraud office for what the SFO describes as potentially "serious and complex fraud"
  • the Party is under investigation by the Police over allegations that a donation of $80,000 was not declared
And this, of course from the political party which, when first formed in 1993 used the slogan "Keeping Them Honest"! Where did it all go wrong?

so if NZFirst has the trifecta

Labour will have the Quinella

As of tomorrow, it's own funding arrangements under investigation by Privileges Committee; SFO; Electoral Office; and of course the Police

And their Union Mates under investigation by the Police.

+ the Electoral Commission's ongoing investigation

"Keeping them honest".

What part of "them" means "us"?

"Where did it all go wrong?"

Pretty sure Bob Jones answered that question a few days ago.

My own theory is that WP allowed his outrageous ego to outstrip what was heralded in 1993 as his party's principles.

It comes with spending too long in politics.

The short answer: as soon as Labour/Unions were allowed to form a government.

The long answer is: when they were allowed to get awa with buying the 2002 and 2005 elections.
