I thought we were broke...

So where is Labour going to get the money from to pay for the Universal Student Allowance bribe that Helen Clark has just announced at Otago University? Keeping Stock thought that the cupboard was bare, and that there was no room for new spending.

If you follow Labour's rationale whenever National announces a new policy, you'd either have to be asking what services will be cut to pay for this, or how much the government will borrow.

Where is the money coming from?

Us.

Where is it going?

To waste in comparison to many other greater needs which would bring greater benefits to more people.

Clearly, the money is going to come from cakestalls and raffles, the same funding source that Winston has tapped successfully for so long.

Okay, there may be a few million pennies coming from the taxpayers, but don't worry, Labour will pass retrospectively-valid legislation to make this whole (media beat-up) global monetary crisis go away.

I have posted in similar vein on this cynical electoral bribe, so much for sound economic management

So, you get all the handouts as a student for about 3-4 years.

Then, you enter the workforce and start paying for your free ride as a student with crippling tax rates for the rest of your working life.

Tax rates WILL go up if Labour get in again.

Where is it going?

It's going to creating more little communists who spend a lifetime as university students (or until they become labour MP's).

Grrrr.......

Anonymous is spot on.

Tax increases will pay for this nonsense.

A fourth term Labour lead government is going to be a disaster for this country. Those who can will leave. Bulk of the rest are so wedded to government handouts and domination of the economy that they will not care.

Will the MSM develop a spine and start giving this sort of pork barrel politics a proper going over.

There have been a lot of fawning articles written about Labour today.....

Labour will never be broke while they can get their filthy mitts into Taxpayers pockets.

Hasn't the three term Labour Gvt been exactly that - a disaster!!
BTW I like your headers.

we've already seen cullen cancel tax cuts once before. If labour get back in, the odds would be extremely short on the cuts theyve announced/implemented being cancelled/rescinded. I can see the language now "due to the unforeseen severity of the global financial crisis andits worse than expected effect on NZ, the prudent action is for us all to take one up the chuff for the good of the country"

Labour: Tax waste and waste tax.
