Letter to Duncan

Here's the e-mail I've just sent to Duncan Garner regarding the scandal of Labours tactics with regard to elderly Chinese in Auckland:

Hi Duncan

Given that you say

"it is not 3 News' job to censor the news.

"If we didn't report it we would be failing in our duty…all 3 News can do is broadcast the material and be as balanced and as careful about it as possible,"

I trust that you will be running this story tonight:

http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz-election-2008/news/article.cfm?c_id=1501799&objectid=10541172

That would indeed show balance, and makes far more serious allegations than those stolen for you by Kees Keizer. I live in hope!!

Regards

Tony

I will let you know if and when a reply is received.

UPDATE: 4.00pm has come and gone, and not a dickie-bird from Duncan Garner. Someone else might have to watch 3News tonight to see if he took up the challenge, because I refuse to watch it.

Any one willing to make a wager on this?

Last election the biggest corrpution story was Labour's illegal spend on its pledge card but the Bretherens got the headlines.

Voter coercion is corruption but I haven't noticed radio or other papers carrying the story yet.

Adam - I'll follow Alex's advice! So far the silence from 3News is deafening. I would have thought that this was THE big story of the NZ Campaign today. Maybe it's just as well that I'm not a journo eh!

HP - you're right - this is corruption. Full marks on the Herald for running the story, and black marks for all those media outlets who don't see corruption as newsworthy anymore.

Danny Watson just `skatyed' past it while taking calls on the US election.

Larry Williams and perhaps Leighton Smith tomorrow are the most likely to pick up on it. I cannot imagine TV! and Guyon Espiner wanting to go down that track and no chance of Sainsbury going near it in to nights debate.

Oops - `skated'

No comment from either TV news channel on this. Similarly nothing on the Vela/Peters cash for policy scandal, or the Peters helicopter denials.
