Oh Bomber

Bomber Bradbury at Tumeke obviously isn't one to let the facts get in the way of a good story, especially when it comes to defending the honour of the left (such as it is!). The Herald reported today that Kiwis are still fleeing to Australia at record rates, which prompted Bomber to blog this:

WHAT? After listening to National for 15 minutes it is obviously apparent that the reason NZers are fleeing NZ isn’t because that’s what NZers have always done, oh no, the reason why NZers are fleeing is because the Political Correctness stormtroopers of the Nanny State Dykorcracy in Helengrad are forcing NZers to flee, but even with the promise of a National Government in Power these NZers seem to be leaving regardless, so I’m a little confused, could it be that NZers have always left and that the entire Nanny State stuff was garbage? What excuse will National use if the numbers leaving are still high under them?

Ah yes Bomber. Had you read the Herald story properly, you would have noticed that it referred to record numbers leaving New Zealand for Australia in the YEAR TO OCTOBER - that, of course, was the last year of the fifth Labour government!! New Zealanders only freed themselves from the clutches of Helengrad two and a bit weeks ago, so it's just a little bit early to be blaming John Key! That's just a bit tumeke, wouldn't you agree?

Most people emigrating will have been planning it for many months. It is therefore dumb to expect those numbers to drop immediately. Besides, most people are leaving because they can get heaps more money across the Tasman. That is something that will take years to correct.

Quite so MacDoc - but as I said, Bomber would NEVER let the facts get in the way of a good story!

You don't understand, anything negative which happened when Labour was in power was a consequence of the "failed" policies of the 80s and 90s; anything negative which registers now - even if it's stats referring to what happened before the election - isn't the result of the failed policies of the noughties, it's all this government's fault. :)

Not if we discover oil in large quantities, or uranium, or gold... wait a minute, where does that sound like?

Perhaps we could find them in the same place Singapore found a uranium mine, Japan and South Korea dicovered their vast oil reserves, and Ireland identified lucrative gold deposits.
