An eclectic mix of some of the finer things in life - politics, sport, music, humour and God. Welcome!
I may be missing something but I don't understand why getting out of Thailand isn't the responsibility of the people stranded, the airlines they would have flown with, their travel agents and/or insurance companies rather than the government.
Quite frankly, this is exactly how I think. There is a perfectly good train service from Bangkok right through to Kuala Lumpur (and even on to Singapore). Do these "stranded" Kiwis think we, the taxpayer, should fund their return to NZ. If they can afford to travel, then they can afford to make contingency plans when necessary.I am so fed up with this socialist attitude which now prevails.
Hear hear homepaddock. I've had to extricate myself from a few countries that have had, um, issues. It's up to me. Were I in jail, I might eventually ask for help from the consular staff, but in the first instance, I'd rely on me. Then again, I don't trust anyone else...
