The father of convicted child killers Wiremu and Michael Curtis has been jailed for his part in the abuse of Nia Glassie.
William Curtis, 50, was sentenced to four years' imprisonment by Judge Phillip Cooper in Rotorua District Court this morning.
He was found guilty in December of seven counts of assaulting a child under 14, and one count of assault with a weapon - a scarf.
On the lead charge of using a weapon to assault Nia he was jailed for three years. On each of the seven assault charges he was jailed for one year - with those sentences to be served cumulatively.
In sentencing Judge Phillip Cooper said the violence by Cutis towards Nia was inexplicable and incomprehensible.
Curtis had a duty of care towards Nia who would have looked to him for protection.
Curtis wrapped a scarf around Nia's neck and held her above the ground for 10 secionds making her face go purple.
He also backslapped her making her lip bleed, pushed to the ground and towards a wall and threatened to stomp on her head if she didn't "f--- up", Judge Cooper said.
Curtis showed no emotion when sentence was passed.
"Nuff said.

From what I have seen and heard of these people they are at least 10 years short on this sentence.
Any comments on the leniency shown to the murder Bruce Emery?.
I think you'll find, anon, the charge was manslaughter.
Quite right bobux - Emery was acquitted of murder but found guilty of manslaughter.
Interestingly, it was confirmed on the news tonight that Emery paid for his own defence. You can bet your house on the fact that William, Wiremu and Michael Curtis, Lisa Kuka, Oriwa Kemp and Michael Pearson will all have had the best defence that your, mine and even Anon's taxes could pay for.
