Madman Mugabe

Adam Smith at The Inquiring Mind provides readers with more evidence that Robert Mugabe is not only mad, but callous and evil as well. As Zimbabwe starves and deals with a widespread cholera epidemic, Mugabe will shortly celebrate his 85th birthday, and no expense is being spared. Visit Adam's lair and read the list for yourself. We totally and completely concur with Adam's closing comment:

The Mugabe regime is an abomination and an obscenity.

We have friends here who emigrated from Zimbabwe. They still have a son there, and many extended family. Food is so scarce, and so expensive that the only way that this family can now feed themselves is to drive to Botswana or South Africa, shop with funds sent to a bank there by our friends, and cross the border again back into Zimbabwe. Leaving and re-entering Zimbabwe is fraught with danger, but that danger/risk is preferable to starvation.

What of those Zimbabweans who don't have friends or family on the outside? They are fast running out of options. And all the while, plans for Mugabe's lavish birthday feast, washed down with Moet, Bollinger, Johnnie Walker Blue Label and Chivas Regal continue apace. The sooner the world is rid of Mugabe and his henchmen, the better. But sadly, we can't see it happening any time soon, as long as world leaders, especially those in Africa sit on their hands.
