Red card for Steve Walsh?

RadioSport is reporting that high-profile rugby referee Steve Walsh has been given the red card by the NZRU.

Walsh's axing is believed to be as a result of an incident at a SANZAR conference in Sydney in December last year which is covered by this piece from Gregor Paul in the Herald.

Wellington and Hurricanes supporters will shed few tears at this development!

Well said BB - I almost used the words "pretty boy" myself, but try not to speak ill of the "dead" as it were!

WA classic case of the ego outpacing the ability.
We know of others who have similar attitude issues and hope they also get red carded.

Everytime he refereed a Welly game, I watched with my teeth on edge.
My husband felt the same way.
I don't feel good that he lost his job, but neither do I feel much sympathy for him.
I hope he gets his life in order, and at some point learns that the fans want to see the game, not him!

Well said La Femme. He always reminded me somewhat of Clive Norling, that rather flamboyant Welsh referee of the late 70's/early 80's - he of the shortest of shorts and the permed hair, who was ALWAYS #1 in the bgame, and never #31, which, as every aspiring referee knows is the desired role of a rugby referee.

you guys are idiots if you think this is good for the game.It will only lower the quality of rugby not having our best out there officiating. Need i remind you he was one of only two NZ refs deemed good enough to get on the merit list for 2009 S14 appointments. How about sticking to relevant issues and not personal attacks!

Well there are five idiots out there being personal about a guy who has put his hand up to his problems. What are yours? As an England supporter I hope he referees the 2011 final New Zealand V England! That is if Paddy is right and he gets to ref for another country.
