Police 10-7

Well, it feels like it anyway! Stuff is displaying this rather startling secirity photo of a bank robbery in progress at the Manukau National Bank earlier today. The alleged offender is the guy in the middle of the picture, brazenly stealing a large sum of money the customer on the left of the photo was trying to deposit.
Being very public-spirited, we are reproducing this photo in the hope that someone might know something, or may recognise the bad guy, and call the constabulary on 0800-826-2766.

Do you still read Stuff?

They are in serious damage control over there trying to convince us that users like to read comments backwards and in blocks of 10. We also prefer the new site apparently.

http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/blogs/from-the-newsroom/2259530/Refining-and-fine-tuning

They are spinning this BS that they had a big get together to decide on the format when all they did was copy across the template from the Sydney Morning Herald.

Users are now demanding a poll. They won't do one of course - how about one of the top blogs runs a poll on this?

If it had been my money, I'd have been dealing out some major pain to that bastard!

CB - I visit Stuff every day. I buy one of their papers perhaps once or twice a week. I no longer buy the Sunday Star-Times due to the bias of the editorial content. I guess I'm just a parasite, using the online resource without actually generating any revenue!

I certainly prefer the "old" Stuff!

I have the paper edition of the DomPost delivered daily plus the SST. The main reason I keep with the SST is that they have a deal which means if I cancel it the cost of the DomPost goes up.

Michael in Nelson - my thoughts are that the guy doing the banking is an employee (dare I say a Union member), so as the money is not his he has no interest in protecting it. From the picture it looks like the robber is unarmed and wide open to some sort of attack from the guy beside him.

Having said that at almost 63 I am not sure how I would react but at the age of that guy I think I might have had a go. The distraction would have probably caused the robber to depart even if it meant getting a black eye or bleeding nose.

SST is still good, if a little more tabloid every week.

Still got the best sports coverage outside the interweb in the country.

As the money is not officially banked, does the person depositing the funds need to claim their insurance (if any) or does the bank cover you as soon as you are on their premises?

If the latter, a good way to launder money eh!
- go to bank with $6K cash
- get mate Rob to 'rob' me in the bank
- bank pays out $6K
- get money back from me mate Rob, now I have $12K.
- Pay Rob commission
- kick Robs ass for not wearing a disguise
- Get commission back off Rob

I read too many crime novels!!!!

Looks to me like that guy isn't too threatening. Has both hands on the money. What, the two guys there couldn't stop him? Nobody else in the bank could stop him?

Good point CB - one which had occurred to me as well, and one which, doubtless, the constabulary will question the customer about - we would hope!

I would like to see the clip of this, rather than the stills. When someone invades your space the normal reaction is to move away.
The Stunned mullet effect is possible but without video it is hard to say.
Holdup training is always about doing nothing to make the naughty man angry and getting out alive. In this instance it appears to be the course of action.
I carry cash to the bank regularly, but never at the same time, same way and same parking place etc.
Was this the guys routine every Monday?

Good point Pique Oil. I'm pretty sure TVNZ had the footage last night, so I'll add it if I can find it. But I'd better do some REAL work first!!

If I was the other guy and saw both hands on the counter, I would be about to inflict a fatal beating!
