Speaking of 11am...

... a big ups to New Zealand Cricket for resisting the advances of a rich and powerful media organisation in India who wanted the start time of the match in Hamilton delayed to midday daily.

Why the delayed start? Sony Entertainment Television, the rights-holding broadcaster teckoned more Indians would get out of bed at 4.30am to watch the start of play than 3.30am!

That's tough for Sony! We've just visited the Metservice website, and we note that the sun sets in Hamilton tonight shortly after 7.30pm. A delayed start would have meant a scheduled finish time of 7pm, but with the necessity to bowl a minimum of 90 overs in the day, overtime is a frequent occurrence these days. To take play into the "twilight zone" would have been a foolish decision. We applaud NZC's decision to stick to its guns, and suggest to Sony that they tell their viewers to harden up - as we have to do, living in a different time-zone from the rest of the world!

Good on Sony for asking for this, although they did leave it too late. After all, they are paying for the tour.

Test cricket needs to use lights more in fading light,

Not sure why the Herald feels the need to bring up the ICL angle in that article; other than to be xenophobic.
