Sadness for Laws

We wouldn't normally comment on a domestic matter, but Michael Laws lives his life in the spotlight, largely of his own choosing. So we note two sad pieces of news today, as reported on Stuff.

Firstly, Laws and his partner Leonie Brookhammer have split. We've been there and done that, so we have sympathy for both parties. We suspect however that as the father of three children to his partner, Laws will find the IRD Child Support people suddenly taking an unhealthy interest in his finances.

Of more concern is the news on Lucy Laws, which doesn't look too bright. We hope that Michael and his family will be comforted to know that many churches here in Wanganui and further afield continue to pray for Lucy's recovery, our own church included.

To the Laws/Brookhammer whanau we say - Kia kaha, kia toa, kia manawanui

Sadly it's not uncommon for relationships to fail when a child is seriously ill or dies which I think compounds the tragedy.

Staying with Michael Laws that long was indeed a miracle. he would probably even admit that with his relationship history.

Both parents appear to be doing a great job with little Lucy who alas isn't looking too cheery by the sounds of it.

Goes to show that even when a marriage is turning to shit, people can still be marvellous parents.

Quite right HP - and the situation that the Laws/Brookhammer family faces with Lucy is not something one would wish on anyone.

Thanks for your comment Kate - I couldn't possibly comment on Laws' relationship history because my own isn't that flash! But you're right - I don't for one moment doubt the commitment that either parent has for their children.

From what I gather Lucy's immune sytem is pretty compromised from the rare infection she contracted last year, so even "minor" illlnesses are a major threat.
