What's up with Tony Veitch

One News reported tonight that Tony Veitch will be in Court tomorrow morning at 9am, and that the depositions hearing set down for next month has been canned. Does this mean that Veitch is going to 'fess up tomorrow to everything or to some lesser charges, or are the charges against him going to be dropped?

Whatever, at least Veitch will get his day in Court. We blogged on our concerns earlier in the year that Veitch was unlikely to get a trial date until some time next year, and ventured the view then that justice delayed is justice denied. We stand by that. This has been a messy business, and the sooner it is dealt with the better for everyone concerned.

Speaking as somebody who always found Veitch extremely irritating on the television and somebody who lined up to punch him out on the wharf at homebush after the RWC 2003 final my next comment may come as a bit of a surprise.
If there is any justice in this country he will front up tomorrow morning and all charges will be dropped, he will receive a public apology from the pigs and the stalking nutbar will be charged with wasting police time and blackmail. However the realist in me suspects they have cut a deal so he can plead guilty to lesser charges and he can get on with the life that has been utterly wrecked by a bunny boiler.

Well said BB - I reckon you echo the view of many, the Veitch has been the victim of a set-up. And I wonder if Ms Dunne-Powell has paid him back any of the hush/blood money.

Meanwhile, Murray Deaker has also gone up in my estimation for giving Veitch a second chance when no-one else would touch him with a barge-pole, and when Veitch was at his lowest ebb. Given Deaker's well-publicised battle with the bottle and with mental illness, he's walked the talk, and deserves recognition.

I'm picking the serious charges will be dropped and Vietch will nod to a lesser charge, maybe common assault and be convicted for same.
Given that he has made substantial payments to the BB I would not expect any other sanction from the court. I doubt that he will be given a discharge, or whatever it is called now, as that would offend whatever hariy armpitted sound biter the msm ring up to get a comment.
I2 like you I think that Deaker showed considerable cojones to hire Vietch and to try to rehabilitate him.

Looks like money can buy a rat a bit of freedom in NZ.
