But this is the post that has really got us upset. It's supposed to be funny, but it fails dismally. Instead, it comes across as a mean-spirited smear against those who have exercised their democratic right with the S59 referendum. For the public good, we'll reproduce the post in full:
Anti-violence campaigners are urging Auckland parents to be especially vigilant in the wake of news that “Vote No” campaigner Larry Baldock is planning a referrendum victory party at a secret Auckland hotel. Local supermarkets have reported selling out of wooden spoons, extension cords and lengths of copper piping in the lead up to the event.
Modeled on the recent round-the-clock “Kid’s Can” Telethon event Baldock’s party will reportedly involve 24-hours of boozing for the adults and a celebratory “good humoured beating” for those children in attendance.
Initial reports that Jake-the-Muss was to attend as a guest of honour appear to have been incorrect. Recently appointed Families Commissioner and child-beating advocate Christine Rankin is said to be going instead.
I've lost track of who's who over at The Standard, so if one of our informed readers can remind us who all_your_base is, we'll know where to direct our condemnation. The Standard used to have standards - of sorts. Now that Labour has its own blog, The Standard has become little more than an echo chamber. And the above post is the absolute pits. The authors there should be ashamed of themselves, allowing such gutter trash to be produced.
Yuck - we feel the need to wash ....

I think he's Chris Elder, a former comms advisor ro Clark,

what a piece of low-life. His supposedly humourous indictment is more likely reflective of his own feelings of guilt.
It was obvious that those demanding the continued right to interfere in how most of us choose to bring up our children were charting an ever more desperate and hysterical trajectory as the overwhelming "no" vote approached, but this really pushes things to stratospheric heights.
My message to all of them is: Yeah, whatever, fuck off.
Depths...heights...oops. Apologies for the clash of metaphors :)
If life is too short to read bad books, it's definitely too short to waste on bad blogs.
Yes indeed HP. Let them drown in their own vomit.
What Ele said. I've never understood why people even bother with The Standard: its nasty and witless. There are several quite good left wing blogs which are worth a look but I gave up on the Standard a long time ago.
I think it was supposed to be humourous, though it missed the point entirely. Replace children with Green Party members and he might have got halfway there.
I long ago ceased to read the Standard. I think I gave them a couple of months after the election to get over their Key derangement syndrome and then gave up when it looked like it was a permanent fixture.
Angus is right, ayb is Chris Elder. I see his general prattishness remains unchanged.
If you want to read a good left wing blog dont read The Standard, read Bryce Edwards' liberation blog.
Joking about someone wanting to beat children isn't funny. Joking that group who's cry is "we just want to be able to parent within the law" is going to go on a massive child beating (and drinking) binge is sick.
Some good comments here. I agree with MacDoctor - matches a post I did this morning.
Will take Dave's advice I think.
