This Sporting Life - 22/1/2010

It's Friday again, and thoughts turn to the weekend's sport. The Aussie Open tennis has been a great watch so far, and the timing of the matches couldn't be better for viewers here.

Not so unfortunately for the Phoenix's attempt to win four on the bounce - with the away trip to Perth, tonight's match kicks off at midnight, so we'll rely on MySky thanks very much. We confidently predict that Eugene Dadi will be primed for this match against the side that didn't want him! Whatever happens, the 'Nix will still be in the top six at the end of the weekend, and with the second-best goal difference in the A-League (+9), the playoffs beckon for the first time.

Shane Bond will still be pinching himself today - the $NZ1m man! Are the IPL auctions a joke? Do they discriminate against Pakistanis? Whaddya reckon?

There's a few topics - now the floor is, as always, yours

Not convinced Bond will be pinching himself too much.

He'd have known that when he pulled out of test cricket he'd have gone to the top of the IPL shopping list.

Is Bond that good a T20 player? I'm steadfastly maintaining a "bah humbug" approach to the game...it's cricket for people that don't like cricket - and I do like cricket ;)

I'm going to allow myself another whinge (hey, I'm a pom) that the Tour Down Under, which is shaping up as a great race with Greg Henderson right at the sharp end is relegated to random half-hour highlights slots on sky, thanks to hours and hours of f-ing tennis between players only their mothers have heard of.

We could lose at least half of that - it's a girls' game after all!

JS until you said you were a pom I was with you lol.

I do agree about 20/20 cricket it has spawned because society seeks quick gratification. Watch out for rugby in 4 quarters soon - it has been mooted before.

Cannot comment on the tenneis because the BBC don't indulge themselves with that, apart from Murray, and we don't have sky where I am staying.

`Mauger wants his test spot back'
or words to that effect on Stuff.

That has to be the best news for the AB's in the last year. The best 12 in the world when he left if he is only half as good now he will bring organisation and stability to what has been a largely dysfunctional backline in the last two seasons.

Great news!!!!!!

It is indeed pdm - and better news still in the the NZRU's next target is Carl Hayman

Yes Hayman back will be a plus - it should ensure we don't have to put up with Tialata.

I was just reading on Stuff about the new scrum rules for Super 14 or 15 or whatever the number is. Unless they have improved in the off season Dumb and Dumber for the Hurricanes won't see much game time - they will always be away for correction or whatever they call it.
