Christian Music Sunday - 11/4/2010

Tim Highes is one of a number of emerging young songwriters and worship leaders, and this is his signature song. We may have moved on time-wise from Easter, but that doesn't in any way diminish the scarifice that Christ made for us.

In fact that scarifice is beautifully captured in this simple but poignant song. Right from the opening words ...

Light of the world, you stepped down into darkness;
opened my eyes, helped me see

... it's a song of praise and exaltation at the miracle God performed through Jesus at Easter. And then after a couple of verses and a couple of choruses comes the bridge which encapsulates Christ's gift to humankind:

I'll never know how much it cost,
to see my sins upon that cross

This is a wonderful song; we love it. And as a bonus, Martin Smith and Stu G from Delirious join Tim Hughes in the live version of Here I Am to Worship - enjoy

My own view is that it's really just bad, but hey this sounds plausible also.
