The Tiger Diaries; Thursday 8/4/2010

They're back! Yes, it's not just Tiger Woods who is back in the office today; Steve Williams has had a summer racing his saloons around the ovals of New Zealand, but he's back to his core business today. It's been a long time between tournaments for Williams, although we doubt that he had to join the ranks of the unemployed; he is well looked after by his boss, and with 13 Majors in ten years together, you can understand the value that Woods puts on his Kiwi caddy.

Anyway, Tiger is now on course. He ripped his first drive right down the middle of the first fairway, and made a regulation par. He currently sits even-par through two holes. If you're really keen, you can follow his progress here at PGATour.com, or here at The Golf Channel. We'll update this instalment from time to time, although we have a painful date with our physio this morning! But to our ageing delight, the Msters Tournament is currently being led by 60 year-old Tom Watson, who shot a five-under 67.

Oh - and if you scroll right down the leaderboard, you'll find Michael Campbell - 10 over through 12 holes, and dead last. The sadness continues for Cambo.

UPDATE: Tiger gets his first birdie - One under through three holes...

... Nine holes gone for Woods and he's tied for 7th at 3-under, just two shots off the lead. Not such good news for Cambo though - a first-round 83 leaves him in 96th and last place. He's not the only struggler though - world #5 Jim Furyk shot 79, and #15 Hendrick Stenson is 8-over through 12 holes. More follows ...

... Woods has just eagled the 15th, and at 4 under par through 16 holes is tied for 7th. Fred Couples holds the lead; in the house with a six-under 66 ...
