Should we enter?

Those who frequent the blogosphere will be aware that there is a competition pending. There was some pretty trenchant criticism of the Best Blog category at the Qantas Media Awards, so the New Zealand Bloggers Union has set up its own awards - the Air New Zealand Best Blog Award.

Now we're feeling a bit conflicted. Those of you who choose to grace us with your presence (all four of you) will know that me, myself and I are shy, retiring types who don't seek the spotlight ... ok, we'll cut the fibs; we DO have a collective ego. So tell us; should we enter?

To complicate matters, we didn't do a full year last year, pulling the plug for an extended period from late August. But is two-thirds of something more meritorious than 100% of nothing? We're not sure.

So we're seeking the wise counsel of our readership; whaddya reckon - do we have a go at this thing? If you have a blog, are you entering? All opinions are valued, even those of the Anonymous commenter who has been visiting of late! We can't be more democratic than that.

Go for it.

Are you?

I do not like the way it is up to the blogger to trumpet their deeds (or misdeeeds as the case may be). All should be automatically entered, judges then make their decision by what they see.

I can see where you are coming from PM, do sheesh; who would want the job of trawling through the muck to find the occasional diamond. I've been going back through some of my stuff from last year, and there is some absolute dross there of which I'm far from proud!

Os said he just picked 4x at random...

Oswald Bastable said...

Yep, just picked four that fitted the criteria of commentary on a news story- which is mostly what I do anyway.

Oswald Bastable said...

To confess- I did pick four that were more or less guaranteed to wind up the judges ;-)

As if that's a surprise Oswald!

Would we expect anything different from Os? As for KG, I'd put money on the religion of peace and a certain Kenyan.

You're probably right PM - likewise Fairfacts Media will doubtless enter a suite of posts about the Obamessiah and Liabore.

Wouldn't bother entering as my blog - ozymandiaswarning.com - is the hot favourite and probably going to win!!

Seriously, yes you should enter. Your blog has a nice mix of all aspects of life - politics, sport, religion etc. Something which most blogs cant claim.

PM blogging is like your 21st birthday. Yes you would like other to promote you but at the end of the day if you dont do it no one will.

FFM has been blackballed. It is not open to pervy unemployed drunks.
PM, the criteria was set to be the same as the Qantas rules, consider it an exercise to get some of us to look at blogs we would not normally read.
I author what some of you would consider to be right wing posts around the place but two of my favourite reads are DIM and Kiwipolitico. Slater writes some Great stuff as does Cactus. Likewise there are 5 or 6 that I call satelite blogs that hang of the link scraps from No Minister that I read every day.
Give the comp a go. You may be pleasantly surprised at the outcome. Not least of which will be an online compendium of all entries. Which of course will satisfy the one burning need we all share... Hits and attention.

Pray identify yourself Anon; just for context!

Not necesary. Just understand the bloggers union ARE EVERYWHERE. We see everything. Bwahahahahahaha.

Yes, go for it
Your blog is third from the top of my favorites
Now there is a certain random scattering to why the favorites are arranged but it is the second read after HP and long before KiwiBlog, Whaley and the lefty Red Alert etc
Your Blog roll is another factor

OK - play silly buggers then!

BTW, it should be "the Bloggers Union IS everywhere" - a particular grammatical fetish we have!

I thought the Air New Zealand Best Blog Award was a piss take at first. Especially when I saw that the extreme left wing radical convict and his D-grade media commentator sidekick were judges. FFS how do they get to be involved? Selwyn is a racist wingnut crim while Bradbury is a sad sack of shit, thinking he’s a primo media and politics don. His problem is that he is no longer relevant. An aging politically compromised activist way past his use by date that no amount of tattooing, overinflated self-importance or outrageous sideboards can redeem.
It will be absolutely laughable to see what they have to offer in a judging context.

Look on the bright side Anon; if Selwyn and Bradbury are judges, Tumeke! can't win; that can't be bad!

Go for it IV2. I thoroughly enjoy your daily ramblings and musings.

Yes do it.

As Beavis (or was it Butthead?) would say: "Do it, do it, heh heh heh!"

I think you probably lack in the prentension department to actually win, but I'm an Atheist that watches your Xtian music sunday posts so...um, dunno.

Just two have been involved in smearing me.
They did a damed good job of it.
But they have both been caught out for telling porkies about myself and others.
Thus, you should not believe what they say.
One obviously misses me paying his mortgage, or a substantial chunk of it.

Anyway, back to the awards. Everyone should enter.
But there needs to be many categories.
There is a great variety of blogs in New Zealand and many deserve prizes and recognition.

Just home from Waitangi and have come across this thread. Allow me some latitude to reply to the mongs sly dig at me IV2. As you and many others are aware the drunk keeps having a pop at me with vague digs and I am at a loss as to know why. Perhaps he might like to give me a call to discuss rather than continuously insinuating crap all the time. Darren, you have my phone number.
On topic for a moment. You should put 4 posts up, it will take you hardly any time at all to find 4 goodies from your body of work.
Back to the dig. Darren the money that you handed over for the privilege of wrecking my house came courtesy of your parents. To rely on you paying rent from the subsistence scraps you manage to gain working for the few remaining entities who have not previously sacked you in NZ would be impossible. I was warned by many to not take you in, sadly for me, my home, my good name in the town I live in and my teenage son I did not listen.
