Judith Collins is looking for a new Police Commissioner - Stuff reports:
Howard Broad has announced that he will not seek a second term as Police Commissioner when his present term expires in April next year.
Minister of Police Judith Collins had been advised that he would not seek a second five year term, he said.
"Changes which have been made under my watch which include the significant Review of the Police Act in 2008 will require reinforcement and the addition of fresh ideas."
"I remain extremely proud of the police and staff, and I'm confident that our organisation is well placed for the future," he said.
We can't say that we are either disappointed or surprised by this news. Howard Broad has been a controversial figure during his tenure in the top job, and allegations surrounding his past conduct have, we believe, reduced his effectiveness.
UPDATE: We prepared this story last night. This morning's Dom-Post suggests that the circumstances of Broad's decision are just a weensy bit different - read on:
New Zealand's top cop has been axed. In a meeting with Police Minister Judith Collins this week, police commissioner Howard Broad learned she will not extend his contract. He will leave in March.
It is understood Mr Broad had been hoping the minister would continue his tenure, which is due to finish in April. He is one of the public service's top earners, receiving between $490,000 and $499,999 a year.
However, last night Mr Broad insisted he had told Ms Collins he was not seeking a second term.
Did he fall, or was he pushed?

For a moment there I thought you were talking about Little Johnny who has been rejected by the black bastards in the ICC.
As far as Broad Sword is concerned, long may he live to lament his too oft used excuse 'not in the public interest' when he was a serial protector of Labour Party members from prosecution.
I don't think `Crusher' Collins does subtle - so he was pushed.
He could do us all a favour by pushing off now.

Oops I don't know what happened there although I did fall foul of the word verification thingy.
Has the malaise that currently pervades England got to you pdm?
It's that word thingy inv2 - it gets me every 3rd or 4th vist and this time it put the boot in.
Do I care, the c**t is gone and only about ten years too late. The damage that plod has done to the place in society the law abiding public hold the boys in blue has dropped so far under his watch, it leaves the next commissioner a very big restoration job. My hope is that a policeman who has seen the conditions the frontline cops work in will get the job and not some theoritician paper shuffler who has the ability to make waffle on a CV look like compelling evidence.
Look for the lady police assistant commissioner who was a librarian.
She is the link to Helen. IMO.

Nice. And good to see IV2 has a zero tolerance policy towards racism on her site. Oh wait...
@ Anon - my policy is NOT to censor comments. Readers are intelligent enough to make their own judgments.
And your judgment was to just let it slide without comment. Interesting.
INV2 will be judged by the same maker of PDM. Burning in hell is a fate worse than death.
