This Sporting Life - 2/7/2010

Flippin' heck; half the year has passed us by already, and there have already been plenty of sporting highlights. It's a relatively quiet weekend ahead; the World Cup has only eight more matches to be played and the All Blacks have a week off, so let's do a bit of reflection today.

What's been your stand-out moment (or moments) of 2010? We'll leave the criteria up to you, so it's a right-royal free-for-all today.

We've got two that come to mind immediately. First up was the second T-20 international at Christchurch back in March. Sure, T-20 is cricker for those with short attention spans, but that was an amazing afternoon. Brendon McCullums century was one of the best short-version innings we've ever seen. The sixes he hit with the McFlick shot defied belief. And then there was the Australian choke in the last over, superbly bowled by Tim Southee, and in the super-over. It was nice to see an Aussie team falter under pressure for once!

Secondly has been the All Whites' performance in South Africa, but in the Italy match especially. Italy made the mistake of taking the win for granted, but they hadn't bargained on New Zealand football's finest hour-and-a-half. David may not have slain Goliath, but he gave him a heck of a fright, and contributed to Italy's elimination from the tournament. Who'd have ever thunk it?

So that's ours - let's hear about yours.

No takers today INV2.

I see Ross Taylor is to Captain the Black Caps. Not a lot of maturity there I would have thought.

Huge talent does not a captain make.
