What a terrific sporting weekend it's been. The Magic battled hard in the ANZ Netball ginal, but couln't pip the Thunderbirds, but that was where the misery ended.
The wonderful Wellington Phoenix came out of hiding and had a 2-1 pre-season victory, even though their squad is far from finalised yet. New striker Dylan McAllister got his name on the scoresheet with a cracking goal, and looks the goods. But the best news of all comes this morning - the Dom-Post reports that Ricki Herbert is staying put! That's awesome!!
The mighty Vodafone Warriors have gone four straight, and remarkably, they are still unbeaten since Sir Butch got knighted. The defensive effort last night against Penrith was amazing. When you consider the players the team is missing at the moment - Price, Tait, Rapira, Hohaia, Locke, and Seymour are just the ones we can remember - their form run is even more impressive. They end the weekend tied for fourth, but sixth on points differential.
The All Black victory on Saturday night was sensational. The memories of 2009 have almost been exorcised, and could well be by a repeat performance this Saturday in Wellington, which we're no longer going to be able to go to, sadly. It was a ferocious display against the world Champion Springboks, and one wonders what psychological damage has been done to Peter de Villiers' men.
Around the globe, the Tour de France has hit the first mountains and the fun has begun, and one of our favourite golfers, Steve Stricker has broken the 54-hole record low score on the PGA Tour. And of course, the World Cup final is about to kick off. Paul the Octopus has picked Spain, and if he's right, that will leave the All Whites as the ONLY UNBEATEN TEAM at the World Cup.
But CricInfo has the best sporting story of the weekend; the Bangaldeshi cricketers have recorded their first-ever win over England, in England to boot! Now, if only the Wallabies had played this weekend ...

Hard to find the Bangladesh win on any BBC news bulletins and had a browse through a few papers in Tesco's earlier today - it is well hidden.
I think this is the first Bangladesh win over a leading nation. Well done to them.
Didn't Bangladesh beat Australia in a one-dayer once?

He's got a media conference tomorrow Jed. Apparently, he'll see out his contract with the Phoenix, which will take him through to around March/April next year. It sounds as though he will continue with the All Whites in the interim as well.
Other offers? I guess that's for him to know, and us to speculate on!
