Education Minister Anne Tolley may face a revolt when she fronts up to 550 school principals in Queenstown today.
The New Zealand Principals Federation yesterday voted overwhelmingly to oppose national standards imposed by the Government to assess year 1 to 8 pupils from the beginning of this year.
Setting aside the debate on National Standards, who in their right mind would organise a conference of state-funded educationalists in Queenstown during the Winter Festival? This is peak time for Queenstown's hospitality industry, with seasonal prices adjusted accordingly.
So who's paying for this jaunt to New Zealand's winter wonderland? We suspect that the answer to that question will be you and we; the long-suffering taxpayer. We hope that the 550 principals who have jetted in from near and far enjoy their apres-ski.
