It's Paul Henry's 50th birthday today; a birthday shared with the late Queen Mother, the late David Lange and with Barack Obama who is, as far as we are aware, still living. Breakfast marked the august occasion by sending Tamati Coffey to do the weather from the Home for the Bewildered where Olive Henry as "an inmate", and she was joined at the breakfast table by the flamboyant Gok Wan. It was at that point that we turned the telly off and headed for work!
We like Paul Henry, simply because he bucks the TVNZ trend, and he says what he thinks, not what is scripted. He will, of course, be eternally remembered for this moment:
Anyway, here's a resounding Happy Birthday to Paul Henry, and we welcome him to the ranks of the fifty-somethings. And the Herald has a nice tribute piece, with plenty of Henry-isms, and several other video links that you may (or may not) enjoy ...

Unlike you INV2 I have veryy little time for Paul Henry. I would sum him up as a `smart alec'at best.
I enjoy his total immersion irreverence, not a regular watcher but did catch the Mostachegate item and thought why not call it as you see it. His co-host squirming added to the fun.
Sorry, but sometime we do need to lighten up IMHO.
That he has made his maiden half century does come as a surprise, although his tilt at parliament was a while ago when I think about it, I was in exile in the Wairarapa at the time so he got one more vote than he might have otherwise.
