Take a look at the picture below:
We were a little bit gobsmacked when we saw it, because the caption reads:
Labour Party Leader Phil Goff (left) is greeted by Deputy leader David Cunliffe. Photo / Paul Estcourt
Personally, we have two observations to make. Firstly, we wonder if David Cunliffe, or more likely one of his spin-doctors moonlighting at APN as a caption-writer. But secondly, we reckon that the pen Cunners if holding in his left hand looks to be extremely sharp, and that from this moment, Phil Goff should be watching his back!

Is everyone on the right talking up Goff so he is kept on or is there something in the water?
Reading Whaleoil and Fran is like reading the Stranded at the moment. All this love for Phil and planning Labour's election strategies, from the right, is wierd!!
They should be warning that if Phil does win the next election he will not last long - the factions will replace him in a heartbeat and we will be back to where we were with the beast.
Not this rightie CB! Goff is nothing but a caretaker leader. Considering that he's been there since 1981, he's not the "fresh face" that Labour needs. He is tainted by every decision Labour made in Govt in 1984-87 and 1999-2008, because he was a Minister right through those years. That, of course includes the introduction of GST in 1986, and the rise to 12.5% in 1989.
Personally, I think Cunliffe will emerge as a potential leader, even though I don't think he's the right person. That's why I found perverse amusement in the Herald's editorial faux pas this morning!
How could anyone win it for Labour in 2011? It's not Phil's fault, he just happens to be the face right now. I wonderd if all this was planned or not? Cunliffe as PM? Key must be worried.
