More good news

Parliament will be interesting this afternoon when the Government's employment law changes get their first outing. Here's today's Order Paper, with the Employment Relations Amendment Bill being the government's first order of the day.

We make no secret of that fact that as business owners, we would welcome the opportunity to be able to use the 90-day work trial provision of the new legislation if we believed it would be appropriate. We're not saying that we would use the provision for every hire that we make; it would be helpful however to have the ability or the option to use it where we were creating a new position.

Doubtless the parties of the left will oppose this legislation with vigour, and given the financial support which the Labour Party draws from the union movement, that's entirely understandable. We hope however that when case studies are produced of workers who have been shamefully treated by unscrupulous "rich prick" bosses, they are NOT of Labour Party activists, as seems to have been the trend with the CTU's videos to date!

Regardless of the status of the subjects in the CTU videos, one would like to see some details of employers acting unscrupulously as opposed to employers acting legitimately.
