Starting well

One swallow doesn't make a summer, so they say. And nor does one win mean that a bumper cricket season beckons. But the Black Caps have made the best possible start to the tri-series in Sri Lanka with a crushing 200 run victory over India in the night.
Cricinfo has the details.

Batting first, the Black Caps were in early trouble, but a partnership of 190 between Ross Taylor and Scott Styris, the two most experienced batsmen saw them through to 288. The Indians were then dismissed for a paltry 88, their lowest-ever total against New Zealand. Daryl Tuffey took three wickets and ran out the dangerous MS Dhoni, and Kyle Mills and Jacob Oram took two apiece.

This was an excelllent effort by the New Zealanders, and Taylor deservedly won the Man of the Match award. Even without Vettori, McCullum B and Ryder, there's a settled and seasoned look about the team, and it was the experienced players who stood up and did the job last night. It's just one game of many though, and whilst we won't get TOO carried away, it represents a positive start to the season.

Good point about not getting too excited INV2. Too often in the past they have flattered but to deceive next up.

Still a good result, although again we have the loss of early wickets.
