Australia has gone to the polls. Who's going to have the bigger smile late tonight when the polls have closed and the counting has been done. Will Julia Gillard's rolling of Kevin Rudd be forgiven? Or will the voters of Australia give Tony Abbott a go?
From all reports it's going to be close, but we wonder if the momentum is with the coalition. Over at Kiwiblog, DPF had a thread on the Ocker election, and between 1pm and 6pm last night, Tauhei Notts reported that the odds on Abbott shortened from $3.05 (they had been $3.85 as recently as Wednesday) to $2.74. That price has softened a little this morning ($2.94), but clearly, the bookies think that the Mad Monk is in with a starter's chance.
We'll keep an eye on the results tonight, so stay tuned. FWIW, we reckon that a hung Parliament is a real possibility. And we wonder whether the late-breaking news of another two Australian deaths in Afghanistan will have any effect on the undecided vote. Stay tuned ....
