This one's from the "I wish I'd followed my own advice" department. We just heard Mike Hosking talking to Christchurch jeweller Tony Kennett about the reawakening of Christchurch's retail sector.
During the course of the conversation, Mr Kennett mentioned that he already had orders to fix over 60 large clocks damaged in the 'quake; then he let slip this howler. Despite the fact that he had always advised people to screw grandfather clocks to their walls, his own 1825 clock was not secured, and fell over! Bugger!!
As an aside, the Inventory-in-laws recently went overseas, and just before they left, they did just what Tony Kennett had advised that grandfather clock owners ought to do. Their grandfather clock is still standing, and chiming on the quarter-hour. At least Tony Kennett is in the right trade to repair his!
