Jimwatch; he's NOT resigning

The soap opera that is Jim Anderton's candidacy to be mayor of Christchurch continues - check this out:

Christchurch mayoral aspirant Jim Anderton has lashed out at Christchurch media, calling them 'vultures' - and now denies saying he would consider quitting Parliament if he won in October.

Anderton has previously indicated he would stay on as MP for Wigram even if elected as mayor.

But in comments broadcast by Newstalk ZB this morning, he said he would consider leaving Parliament to be in Christchurch full-time if he won because the city would need a full-time mayor in the aftermath of the earthquake there.

Yet he then told the Press Association he never said that.

"I've made no such comment.

OK Jim; whatever. The comment that Anderton would CONSIDER resigning as MP for Wigram was widely reported, but apparently it's nothing more than an urban myth. Nothing has changed, and Anderton is STILL the MP for Wigram, and is STILL standing for the Christchurch Mayoralty, denying that he plans to forsake one job for the other.

We guess that we'll just have to wait for the next episode to see how the plot goes from here. In the meantime, perhaps Jim should have a look at I-Predict, and see where all the smart money is going ...

No! No! and thrice No!

Jim should not use the ChCh mayoralty race as a reason to resign from parliament.

Jim should (You may use this Jim) state quite simply "The last week has shown that I am not fit to be in the same province as Bob Parker and I'm retiring from the Christchurch mayoral race and returning to Auckland immediately never to pollute South Island shores again".

Whether he retires from parliament or waits until he's kicked out no longer matters.
