There's been a whole lot of shaking going on in Christchurch this morning. A magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck at 4.35am, and inital reports suggest that there has been considerable damage and some injuries.
We have whanau in Christchurch, and are understandbly concerned. We'll have updates throughout the day.
UPDATE: Whanau accounted for; all safe and sound, if a little shaken and sleep-deprived. Power and water are out, and cellphone coverage is coming and going. And here's more of the damage in the CBD
