World Champions

Well done to the Black Ferns - four times IRB Women's Rugby World Cup champions. They've beaten arch-rivals England by 13-10 in the final in London, despite the best efforts of the referee! Stuff reports:

New Zealand overcame three sin-binnings to notch a narrow 13-10 win over England in this morning's final of the women's World Cup rugby tournament and secure their fourth title at Twickenham in London.

The Black Ferns backed-up territorial dominance with a strong defence as England, playing them in the final for the third consecutive time, threw everything it could at the Kiwis in front of a crowd of 13,253.

Centre Kelly Brazier kicked what proved to be the winning penalty with 14 minutes left.

"These girls were brilliant today," New Zealand captain Melissa Ruscoe said.

"We certainly didn't have anywhere near (the resources of) what other teams have had here - but when you've got the support like we've had here, you're playing for everybody (at home)."

That's a fantastic result. The English have been the one team to regularly test the Black Ferns, so beating them in their own backyard makes the victory even sweeter - kia kaha nga wahine!
