The Chilean Miracle; mission accomplished

What more can we say? As we type this, Luis Urzua is on his way to the surface; the 33rd and final miner to be rescued. The joyous scenes at the head of the rescue shaft are incredibly emotional. This is a true story of the triumph of the human spirit in the face of overwhelming adversity.

The term "hero" is tossed around far too freely in our ever-humble opinion. But Luis Urzua is a REAL hero. His leadership and motivation of his team of miners has been nothing short of inspirational, and it has been HIS decision to be the last miner rescued. He's one of many heroes in the rescue, but it is his story which will be told and retold for many years to come.

Luis Urzua; we salute you.

The ODT reckons its miner miracles - and it is.
