As a nation, we have a close connection to our brothers and sisters in the West Island, known by some as Australia. In fact many of us have brothers and sisters and other whanau living over there!
Today is Australia Day, and the Aussies certainly know how to celebrate. There'll be fireworks, BBQ's, beer, wine, an ODI at Adelaide (where it's almost always 40* on Australia Day) and lots of Ocker bonhomie. Good on them; they've had a rough start to 2011, so they deserve a break, and we wish them well.

What a contrast Australia celebrates Australia inc on their national day, we however run a racially charged commemoration of an antiquated British political maneuver to pacify existing inhabitants as they did what every European nation did in those days, colonise.
We have cleverly elevated that document to an exalted status in our psyche where it now seems to be the most devisive tripwire as we continue to mature as a nation, spawning a massive grievance industry that contributes nothing to the economic cake and will continue for the forseeable future to act as a handbrake to progress.
