The paua diver missing for two days near Titahi Bay in Porirua has been found alive and well - in Hawke's Bay.
Police say father-of-three Colin Smithies, 49, of Wellington - who was last heard from at 6pm on Monday when he texted his partner he had found a good dive spot - walked into the Clive Police Station in the Hawke's Bay a short time ago.
"How Mr Smithies came to be in Clive is yet to be determined and police will not make any further comment until tomorrow morning once further
investigations have been completed overnight," said a police press release.More than 20 SAR volunteers, Wellington police maritime unit's launch - Lady Elizabeth IV - and the police national dive squad resumed a search for Mr Smithies at first light today, scouring the shoreline and water from Rocky Point in the south to Pukerua Bay in the north.
We're not going to speculate on why this chap turned up on dry land a couple of hundred kilometers from where he entered the sea; doubtless the police will have more than enough questions. But it DID remind us of a classic British comedy series from the 1970's with its classic title sequence ...
All's well that end's well, and we didn't get where we are today ...

grot!
I didn't get where I am today by not staging disappearing acts!
Indeed OB - the police are suggesting that the gent in question is in a "delicate mental state"; I doubt that will surprise anyone much.
