Phil Goff Caption Contest

Check this out from the Phil Goff story in today's Herald:

Do you have a plan to boost your personal ratings?

Oh, I'd like to see a little more media coverage. My [unscientific] analysis of the Herald shows 520 pictures of John Key and 2 of Phil Goff. And in an election year I'll expect a lot more balance than that.

Now, regular readers will know that we are obliging folk here at Keeping Stock. If Phil Goff is upset at the level of coverage he's getting in the media, we're only too happy to help!

Here's the picture that accompanied the Herald story:

You know the drill; give it your best shot, and make Phil's day. After all, as Oscar Wilde once said, "the only thing worse than being talked about is not being talked about" ...

Don't look now, but I think that's Helen over your right shoulder. Again.

I think you could have presented a more flattering shot. Say the one where he hugs Arafat.

"I have a chance of winning at the 2026 election when national lose and John Key resigns? Awesome!"

Thanks Invent - and a Happy New Year to you also.
The picture you've chosen of Goff is interesting - he doesn't look stressed, nor does he appear worried. In fact he looks enthusiastic and confident! What can be going on? We're regularly told he's a dried husk of yesterday's man but clearly, that aint so. Is the constant repetition of the undermine Goff's image meme not working as it should?
Crikey lads! Crank it up a bit will ya! Soon the public will catch on!

Far from it Robert; Goff was lamenting the absence of photographs of him, so we've merely used the Herald photograph which accompanied the story, for no other reason that that we're helpful folk!

Did I tell you I spent quite some time talking with Phil Goff when he was down here in Southland Invent?
He's interesting to talk to - very genuine when the media have taken their pound of flesh and left. He and I talked about motorbikes (mine were Triumphs) and our families and home life and so on. I liked him. He's clever and personable. The right are trying to portray him as 'goofy' or 'dull' etc. but that doesn't have any validity at all for me. His going about and meeting with people will probably have the same effect ofn them - they'll see through the media-generated spin. The more people he talks with kanohi ki te kanohi, the more success he'll have at the election.

You could be right Robert. But peiople will also realise that Goff has been in Parliament since 1981 (barring 1990-93 when he lost Mt Roskill to Gilbert Miles!), that he was a Minister in the Lange/Palmer/Moore government (and a follower of Sir Roger Douglas). He's yesterday's man. Sure, he has served New Zealand well, but his best days are behind him.

Where as John Key's best days are ahead of him eh Invent and in those glorious days ahead he's going to... what exactly?
Catch his beloved New Zealand up with Australia?
Restore Law and Order in our streets and homes?
Close the gap between Rich and Poor?
Keep us from being tenants in our own land?
I
don't
think
so.

Do you?
