
We were very sad this morning to read of the death of British actor Pete Postlethwaite at the young age of 64.
Pete Postlethwaite was a marvellous character actor with a craggy, "lived-in" face, unlike the umblemished visages which Hollywood routinely serves up. We remember most his portrayal of Guiseppe Conlon in In the Name of the Father. He was nominated for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his role alongside Daniel Dey-Lewis in the powerful portrayal of the unjust conviction and imprisonment of the Guildford Four.
We also remember with fondness Postlethwaite's role as Danny in the 1996 film Brassed Off, and we offer this scene as an epitaph to a wonderful actor who will be sadly missed - rest well Pete Postlethwaite:
