Sunday Sporting Special

It's been a relatively eventful and quite successful weekend for the teams that we support - in no particular order:

  • The New Zealand sevens team turned up at a party in Wellington, played rugby, and beat the English by 26-14 to win the tournament
  • The Black Caps FINALLY turned on a complete team performance to beat Pakistan in the final ODI at Auckland, with Jesse Ryder going from famine to feast (d'you like the food metaphor?) with a brutal 107
  • The Wellington Phoenix beat Adelaide United 1-nil thanks to some more Matco Rojas magic and a Chris Greenacre header. That cements their sixth place in the A-League, and means that a trip to the playoffs is highly likely. It's only the 'Nix's second win on the road this season.
  • The Palmerston North Panthers saw off the valiant Wanganui Warriors in the semi-finals of the Superstock Team Champs in Palmerston North, before demolishing the Stratford Scrappers in the final. The Warriors though provded plenty of entertainment; it was great to see them back.
At least the Black Caps can take something out of the latter part of the ODI series; the emergence of Nathan McCullum as the "finisher" that his brother was supposed to be. Our expectations of them in the World Cup however are low, but we are happy to be proved wrong!

The floor is yours now; have we missed anything? Feel free to chat about anything sporting this morning ...

I actually thought Styrus did the job I prescribed for him over at the Sports Geek. Good to see Ryder getting runs and I would still swap Guptill and B McCullum.

I will have a review of the Six Nations matches up for you when you get yup Monday morning.
