This Sporting Life - 25 February 2011

Sport? It's hard to get enthusiastic about sport today, for obvious reasons. But the Black Caps play the bat-throwing Australians tonight at the World Cup, and there's rugby and netball at the weekend, although none involves Canterbury teams.

Talk about it if you like ...

As a Christchurch resident but a Highlanders fan (I grew up in Invercargill) I'm looking forward to the game tonight. My old plasma survived, I have power and water, my whanau is comfortable, and my immediate neighbours are all good, I will try to do some volunteer work today shovelling sand, as I did yesterday, but I think a couple of hours watching God's great game will be good for me and mine...

Mighty, thats good news. It raises the spirits.

I grew up in Christchurch so it's been hard watching the carnage from Auckland.

Go the highlanders!

I2, family coping?

"Coping" would be the operative word Alex. SWMBO's parents are more concerned about other people than themselves, so that stresses SWMBO. My daughter is coming home for a break next week. We'd love to up sticks and go down and help, but that would probably be counter-productive.

And if the Black Caps aren't motivated tonight for a big game, they never will be!
