An amazing photograph

In this electronic age in which we live, there has been no shortage of dramatic photographic and video coverage of Japan's catastrophic earthquake and tsunami. None however captures the magnitude of the tsunami (in terms of its size) than this one:

Japan faces a huge rescue, recovery and rebuilding effort, the likes of which has not been seen in our lifetime. As bad as the situation is in Japan though, let's not forget that Christchurch too faces an enormous recovery and rebuilding effort.

The world's focus is now fairly and squarely on Japan, and rightly so; the toll there is horrific in every sense of the word. But let's not forget that it's only three weeks since Mother Nature dealt Christchurch a huge blow; one that will resonate through New Zealand for years to come.

I2, one of the scary thing about that picture (in addition to considering the force required to get the vessel to it's resting place) is that the ferry looks to be intact.
So much so it could be returned to the water and recommence operations (once engineers and insurers have checked it.)

Indeed Anon, and well done James. Whilst this is a dreadful human tragedy, there's still room for a little lightness.

That was an amazing story last night of the chap found floating 10km out to sea on the roof of his home; it almost beggars belief.
