Irish eyes will most certainly be smiling this morning. In a stunning upset, the Irish have posted the highest ever run chase in World Cup history to beat England; yes ENGLAND!
How the worm has turned. Just two months ago the English were playing the final Ashes test in Sydney, having already won the series. From there they embarked on a woeful ODI series against the Australians, and they have carried that form into the World Cup.
To add to the English misery, Kevin O'Brien scored the fastest century in World Cup history after Ireland had slumped to 111 for five chasing 327. O'Brien reached his hundred from just 50 balls, and by the time he was finally dismissed, victory was almost assured. Cricinfo reviews the action here.
England is now in some trouble. Its match against Bangladesh is a must-win, and even then, the English will probably have to beat one of West Indies, Sri Lanka and South Africa to qualify for the quarter-finals. It's a long drop from the penthouse to the outhouse!

Saw the highlights on the box and quickly looked at the guardian ball by ball commentary.
Unbelievable.
Cue ritual media abuse by english media and crowing by those in Ireland!
My Irish side is jubilant!
Guinness for lunch woohoo. The Poms wont be too upset, the Ashes means more than the ICC Pyjama party doesnt it?
Nice morning to be Irish. Just annoyed I didn't get on them at 400-1 with the bookies. Still, I wonder what the odds would be of Ireland beating NZ?

Let's not even go there!
South Africa B are not looking too flash. If Banladesh beat them they could be gone.
Unlikely NZ will play Ireland especially if Rhodesia beat us.
Ooops - you all know that is Bangladesh don't you?
